Copier
TASK ANALYSIS
REDESIGN
INTRODUCTION
For Emily Carr students, it is common that we need to scan and copy our works for researching and editing.
We've realize that the copier machines at the back corner of ECU library has multiple ergonomics problem.
It could be very frustrating for students especially first-time users to properly use the machine. It sucks even more when we are in a rush to class and get stuck at the printing process.
We shouldn't have to face these frustrations, in fact, machines are designed to make humans' life more conveninent and easier. Therefore, we find this opportunity to redesign the control and display allocations
on the machine.
DESIGN PROBLEMS
TASK ANALYSIS
TASK ONE
REDESIGN
Definition of existing display and control problems
New birth for the machine
Determination of improvement
DESIGN PROBLEMS
TASK TWO
To photocopy a horizontal layout paper into letter size
USER GROUP
Our target user group is Emily Carr University students. Either students who uses the copy machine frequently or occasionaly should both be able to use our redesigned machine at ease.
the Renovation
Our new design eliminates the complex interface design by making the interaction pages into orders. Our design interface will take users step by step through the basic functions:
1. choose copy media
2. choose paper size
3. choose dimensions
4. choose printing method
white
White text with grayscale block underneath. Taken away the colors, to prevent color misleading and problems for those who are color blinded.
Placing items that are related close together, becuase human brain will automatically assume things that are close to one another are to read together.
Having hiearchy with the texts, differentiates the importance and levels of the tasks.
Users can simply see what choices they had selected on the right bar graph. If any changes are to be made, they can just tap on the selection and the page will pop up.
The "READY" block is for users to understand the condition of the machine. For example: out of paper, not enough ink, paper jam, scan another file, ready to copy, etc.
Analysis of two main tasks conducted throughtout the day involving display and control movements
Trying to make two papers scanned and combined side by side on one single page
Photocopy a two sided content from magazine into two seperate letter sheets
TASK THREE
The buttons are color coated, Red and Green as usual. Gray scale for the number buttons keeping it neutral.
Got rid of the triangle "Interrupt" button, instead given it a diamond shape, similar to stop signs alert signs.
Responsive Feedback:
When one clicked on the STOP or CLEAR button, there will be a feedback alert making sure with the user. As well for the top buttons that are designed for technicians.
The responsive feedback
can also be in audio mode.
